Dr. Noel Paul graduated with his PhD in Chemistry from The Ohio State University in 2004, then received a fellowship with the National Institute of Health for Drug Abuse. Over the past years, he has worked to better comprehend the role of the dopamine neurotransmitter system in addiction. At his stay at the National Institute of Health, he studied dopamine’s D2 receptor, which has been allegedly linked to addictive drugs.

In his talk, Dr. Paul aims to demystify the stigma around chemicals in the media, which are frequently portrayed as detrimental, implying that chemicals are used only in drugs such as heroine and opioids. Furthermore, he makes the case that a better understanding of chemistry can help to better understand addiction and its effects on the human body, ultimately proving the necessity of a deeper understanding of chemistry.
